I don't disagree but...hindsight is always 20/20. The mayor had to consider the safety of the millions of residents of the city. She was told to pull back and she did not. She valiantly defended the rear so that so many of her fellow soldiers could escape, a brave and noble act of self-sacrifice. But if she fails to get to the gate in time, then they have to close it. It was a hard decision and no one wanted her to die, but there it is. What if they didn't close the gate and the beast tide overwhelmed the city before reinforcements could arrive? Then Lin Feng would show up to a destroyed city of the dead and all the people butchered.
